How do we find out our own Soul’s Purpose, or Prime Directive? And how do we navigate our large and small life decisions to ensure that we are truly following that guiding light?
In the fictional universe of Star Trek, the Prime Directive is to help others, but not to interfere. Of course, those rascals on the Enterprise engaged in many workarounds and exceptions to the Prime Directive, but the over-arching spirit of it was always present.
Real life does not come with a clear-cut policy manual or handbook, but we have something even better. We have access to the Akashic Records, which is a vast resource to help us understand our life journey: its lessons, its choices, and our own impact on all of creation.
Our Soul’s Purpose is ultimately about learning to experience, express, and enjoy unconditional love in a way that is unique to us—through our personality, gifts, and life circumstances. We can know our Soul’s Purpose by noticing what consistently activates love, energy, and a deep sense of fulfillment within us—and then following the clues:
- We genuinely want to do it. If we dread it or have zero interest, it’s not ours to do.
- We have some natural ability. It may take effort, but there’s an organic “fit.”
- We enjoy the process—even when it’s hard. Discipline may be required, but it still feels meaningful.
- We have enough energy/resources for the next step. Not necessarily the whole journey—just the next step.
- We are clear about how we want to feel, but flexible about the path. Life is the laboratory.
- Perfection isn’t required. Purpose refines we as you go.
- We can’t fully quit. Even if we pause, we return.
- It has value even without approval. Rejection doesn’t stop us (sometimes impediments make us even more determined).
- We start where we are and accept help when needed. No attachment to how long it takes.
- We love ourself no matter the outcome. Success or failure doesn’t determine our worth.
Reflect on this question: “What gives me energy today? What activates the love within me—and amplifies it?” It might be nurturing others. It might be cause-related activism. It might be bringing order into a chaotic situation. It might be deep contemplation. It might be forging academic or scientific breakthroughs. It might be showing kindness and compassion where these are missing. It might be creating beautiful music or art. It might be serving as a catalyst for change. The list is endless!!!
Our Soul’s Purposes may seem ordinary, human, simple on the surface, but they tend to persist over time. When we move toward them, we find that our desire and momentum will keep growing and growing. When we move away from them, it may feel like we are spinning our wheels and getting nowhere.
