While it is true that money can’t buy happiness, a lack of money can easily cause our lives to become uncomfortable and worrisome.

Many who choose a spiritual path prefer not to even think about money or talk about money unless it is absolutely necessary. But I am asking you now to reflect on money and the purpose of money as we enter into the year-end season, which can lend itself to a natural assessment of our past, present, and future wealth.

Money is neither good nor evil, but what we value is of great importance in manifesting our soul’s purposes.

Here is a guided exercise that can be done with your Akashic Records open, or not:

Take a moment to assess your own material resources. What do you have? You might have a good job, a large savings account, a dependable car, a beloved musical instrument, a nice home, some elegant jewelry, etc. Out of the material resources that you have, what’s most valuable to you? What things do you have that you really love? Is there something that you feel or think that you need to have? Is there something that you feel is missing for you? Like if you had that thing, you’d feel better, everything would be OK?

Next, recognize your inner resources, qualities that you have, characteristics of who you are. Perhaps you have a favorite or most cherished quality about yourself. Are you an excellent cook, or a gifted healer, or a nurturing caretaker, or a talented artist, or an organized administrator, or a trustworthy friend? Is there an inner resource that you value above all others?

For example, a friend of mine truly values her love of history and her sensitivity to beautiful antiques. Of course, those specific inner resources make it inevitable that every time she walks into a thrift store, she finds jaw-dropping treasures that no one else would recognize as precious. She has a wealth of jewelry and haute couture fashion pieces, and it brings her abundant joy to refurbish important pieces of history and find them new appreciative owners. Her inner resources are in alignment with her material resources.

Think deeply about any connections between your most cherished, valuable qualities about yourself, your inner resources, and your material belongings. Look at these connections in the light of Gratitude, opening our eyes, taking a look, and feeling thankful for the gifts we enjoy. This is how we discover your soul’s purposes.

From an Akashic perspective, our relationship with our “stuff” tells us something about our relationship to our soul’s purposes. Material resources are a bit like the legend of the map, with clues or hints about your soul’s purposes and your relationship to your soul’s purposes.

Perhaps you have tremendous inner resources to meet your destiny, but your material resources aren’t fully developed yet. Or you may have a great deal of material resources ready to go, but your inner resources aren’t as well developed as they need to be. Look and see, where are the strengths and where are the weaknesses.

If one day you hit the “jackpot” and found yourself with more money than you could ever imagine, what would be the first thing you would want to spend it on? Conversely, if you suddenly lost a great deal of money, what would be the first expense you would cut?

A deep reflection on our material resources and our inner resources, and the relationship between them, helps us identify the resources that really belong to us, to take care of us so we can do what we are here to do. Allow yourself to take your attention off basic survival and on to the purpose of your life.   What resources are truly yours?

As we clarify our thinking about wealth and what we truly and authentically need to fulfill our destiny, what we need will be ours.
